Transponder Keys - What is a Transponder Key?
 A transponder key is a key with a small non powered chip embedded in the head of a vehicle key which communicates with your vehicles electronics when the ignition is turned on. If you try and start your vehicle with a key without a transponder chip (but requires one), your vehicle will not start.
Transponder key technology was introduced to vehicles from approximately 1995. Australian standards require that all passenger vehicles from 2000 onwards be fitted with transponder technology. Some commercial vehicles and motorbikes are also fitted with this system.

A 'wet' key is a standard key without the transponder chip embedded in the head, which will allow you to lock your transponder key hidden inside your vehicle and take your 'wet' key into the surf, onto the beach or boat, without damaging or losing your expensive transponder key.
